Pre-NaNoWriMo Holiday

The thought of going on holiday whilst trying to prepare for writing a novel in one month was scary. I was going to miss a whole week of planning characters, plot and backstories. As if attempting to write 50,000 words in 30 days was not mad enough!

We were going to stay in a lovely cottage in Devon with a Jacuzzi and to be honest after a few months of disasters – including me throwing up for 24 hours before we left – I was ready for a break.

jacuzziWe decided to ride the canal path, which was opposite our cottage, to Tiverton. The scenery was stunning and guess what? I had time to think about my plot and characters whilst getting plenty of exercise! Who said I couldn’t multi-task? Oh yeah, it was me.

me on bike The bike ride took a couple of detours which provided some high intensity training and a bit of off-roading due to canal repairs. Great excuse to jump in the jacuzzi when we got back.

I cannot believe how much writing I did -post jacuz of course – that evening. I had to get all of my ideas from the day down on paper. I even woke early the next day to work on some research. The holiday thing was turning out to be a great way of working on my novel. Luckily, Carl was happy to study on his computer when we were not out and about.

We stopped in Tiverton for lunch and made our way back to our cottage. Total mileage for the day was 23 miles.

fieldAll in all, a great couple of days.

If the weather gets worse, I could finish all my prep but I hope for our sake that it won’t be the case.
